Breast Cancer Ireland Race Day 2025
The sun shone as the high profile, glamorous and ever popular Breast Cancer Ireland Race Day fundraising event saw almost 450 friends and supporters of the Breast Cancer Ireland community gather together for the annual racing event to help raise vital funding to support their critical research, education and awareness programmes.
The sold out fundraising event opened with a short address by both Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland, and event sponsor Gavin Hydes, CEO of Joe Duffy Group, who highlighted the importance of Joe Duffy Group’s long term partnership with the charity and how the partnership has grown and evolved in recent years.
Speaking at the event Gavin said “We’re incredibly proud to once again support the Breast Cancer Ireland ‘Race for a Cure’ Race Day, alongside our colleagues at Porsche Centre Dublin. Our partnership with this incredible charity has grown and strengthened over the years, and we remain deeply committed to helping drive progress in the fight against breast cancer. Seeing so many friends and supporters come together today is a testament to the impact we can make when we unite for such an important cause.
This was followed later in the day with a thank you address given by Professor Arnie Hill, Chairman of Breast Cancer Ireland and Chairman, Department of Surgery, Beaumont Hospital who outlined reasons for hope and the changing and improving landscape of breast cancer treatments and therapies. Central to the day were the stories shared by brave and inspirational Breast Cancer Ireland Patient Supporters Avril Tierney, Ziva Cussen and Niamh Noonan – all of whom shared details of their own personal treatment journeys and the ways in which funds raised by the charity have impacted (positively) on their lives.
Seasoned Master of Ceremonies, RTE’s Miriam O’Callaghan, a long standing supporter of Breast Cancer Ireland’s work, kept the event running seamlessly throughout the day, with a Racing TV presenter and tipster sharing valuable betting hints and tips to discerning guests eager to bet selectively!
After an exquisite 3 course meal with complimentary wine flowing, the Best Dressed winners on the day (both male & female) were announced as judged by Breast Cancer Ireland Ambassador Lorraine Keane (Founder of Fashion Relief pre-loved boutique in Frascati Centre, Blackrock) and James Kelly from Louis Copeland and Sons. The effortlessly stylish winners were selected as Yann Leroy and Nicola Hanney both deserving winners, having nailed sartorial racing looks for the event. Yann won a bespoke €1000 tailored suit provided by Louis Copeland & Sons, whilst Nicola left with a Beauty & Style Pampering Day at Frascati Centre, Blackrock, valued at €1,000.
Renowned Auctioneer Tadgh Dooley of Goff’s then took to the floor to kick off a sensational fundraising Auction, complete with his team of experienced spotters working the room. Bids rolled in for an array of money-can’t-buy auction prizes such as Oasis Tickets, a Grand Prix trip, a stunning Chupi diamond, and a magical Sunway Holiday trip to Lapland raising an unbelievable 35,000 euro in funding for the charity’s ongoing research efforts.
Following a fundraising raffle, with guaranteed prizes for each of the 40 tables, guests also enjoyed entertainment from award winning event band The Moogs, who managed to successfully get many of the guests on to the dance floor within minutes, and continued with a full hour of dance floor filling hits much to the delight of the guests, happy to extend the partying well into the evening, with a repertoire spanning hundreds of high energy hits across various genres of music.
Overall, it is estimated that the Race for a Cure event raised a staggering 200,000 euro for Breast Cancer Ireland, which will now be used to fund ongoing and pioneering research and awareness programmes all across the island of Ireland, whilst also funding cutting edge research into new treatments and therapies for the disease.
