On the occasion of World Cancer Day (4th Feb) Breast Cancer Ireland was pleased to welcome it’s patient ambassadors, supporters and sponsors to a coffee morning in the Fitzwilliam Hotel, Dublin where CEO Aisling Hurley provided an update on the year in review, explaining how funds raised during the year are being spent and projects supported.

Professor Arnie Hill, Chairman of Breast Cancer Ireland & leading Breast Surgeon spoke about the ever changing positive landscape for breast cancer, with less invasive surgery into the future,  followed by Professor Leonie Young, lead researcher, who introduced her team of scientists and mathematicians, that are actively seeking new targeted therapies for certain metastatic conditions encountered.

Finally the morning was rounded off by a powerful insight from Orla Byrne, BCI Patient Ambassador, who spoke of her sudden diagnosis three years ago with aggressive metastatic breast cancer and her treatment plan that ensued, involving the use of a new clinical trial drug, Palbociclib that has helped her to live with her cancer and regain her life back.
