Golf Classic in Memory of Emma Hannigan Took Place in Luttrellstown

In memory of the award-winning novelist and campaigner who passed away last year, the second Emma Hannigan Memorial Golf Classic hosted by Breast Cancer Ireland took place on September 20 in Luttrellstown Castle Golf Club, Dublin. Emma’s father Philip Hannigan, who continues to support his late daughter’s passion for advancing breast cancer research, agreed to sponsor this event through his company Hard Metal Machine Tools Ltd. His wish is that through this sponsorship Breast Cancer Ireland will be able to maximize revenue and ensure all funds raised on the day will speed up research discovery times to affect better treatment outcomes for those impacted by breast cancer. Former international rugby player and pundit Shane Byrne took on MC duties and Fair City actor Dave O’Sullivan joined a number of corporates and medics soaking up the September sunshine to play this beautiful course and raise much-needed funds.

Chairman of Breast Cancer Ireland, Professor Arnie Hill, presented the prizes on the night and spoke about the work being undertaken by the charity and the continuing legacy of Emma Hannigan in driving efforts. “As we continue to fund research and make progress,” he said, “we remember Emma and the impact she had in helping us to transform the landscape of breast cancer in Ireland into the future.”

Breast Cancer Ireland raises significant funding to help speed up breast cancer research discovery times as well as promoting education and awareness on the importance of breast health amongst women of all ages.
