Adrian (Heng Yang) Lee is a postgraduate researcher investigating how breast cancer cells change and adapt when they spread to the brain — knowledge that could ultimately help researchers develop more effective treatment strategies.

Adrian’s work focuses on an exciting and relatively new area of cancer research called RNA methylation. RNA plays an important role in carrying the instructions our cells need to function, and small chemical changes to RNA can influence how genes behave.

While scientists have studied changes to DNA and proteins in cancer for many years, the role of RNA modifications is still being uncovered.

By understanding whether these changes help breast cancer cells survive and grow in the brain, Adrian’s research could reveal new ways of targeting metastatic disease.

Why This Research Matters

Some of the answers to breast cancer’s biggest challenges may be found in areas of science we are only beginning to understand. Adrian’s work could uncover previously unknown reasons why breast cancer survives in the brain and point researchers towards entirely new treatment approaches.

By investing in the discoveries of tomorrow, we can change what is possible for patients in the future. Together, we can Rewrite the Future
