Investigating new therapeutic strategies for patients with family history breast cancer

Aisling Hegarty has been an integral member of Professor Young’s research team since 2014. She coordinates patient recruitment and translational research initiatives within the Family History Clinic while leading studies focused on women with a strong family history of breast cancer who are BRCA1/2 wild-type.

Using advanced genomic technologies and bioinformatics analyses, she is uncovering the molecular drivers of hereditary cancer risk beyond BRCA mutations. Her work aims to identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets that could transform how these patients are diagnosed, monitored and treated.

Aisling has completed her PhD within the Department of Surgery and is now the Accreditation Lead for our Cancer Centre.
