Breast Cancer Ireland is delighted to support an innovative cancer ‘Think Tank’ taking place in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, on Monday, October 15 and Tuesday, October 16. The Dublin Steroid Cancer Meeting will explore the latest developments in diagnostic and therapeutic treatments for patients with breast cancer.

Bringing together world leaders in the field of steroid cancer biology for a two-day meeting that will foster critical idea exchange, inspiration and collaboration, this year’s conference theme will focus on epigenetic and metabolic dysregulation in cancer, emerging immunotherapies and the influence of the tumour microenvironment, as well as including talks on basic research and translational implications.

Conference co-chair and speaker, Professor Donald P McDonnell, Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at Duke University Medical Center (based in Durham, North Carolina, USA) will present on the research currently being undertaken on the following: novel therapeutics for use in the treatment and prevention of hormonally responsive cancers, and the pharmaceutical exploitation of oestrogen and androgen receptors as therapeutic targets in breast cancer. The ongoing efforts of his team in have led to the discovery of several drugs that are currently being evaluated in the clinic as cancer therapeutics, and to the identification of potential biomarkers and predictors of response that can help to target the use of these new drugs.

Commenting on the event, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland Aisling Hurley says, “Our mission is, through research, to transform the landscape of breast cancer in Ireland, and so we are proud to support this important collaborative initiative.”

Professor Leonie Young, founder of the Endocrine Oncology Research Group in RCSI adds, “We are excited and honoured to host this unique ‘meeting of minds’, and appreciate the support of Breast Cancer Ireland in helping us to move conversations and ideas about how to push the field of research forward.”
